AKA Selma chapter starts Reading is Fundamental summer program

The Zeta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has been begun their summer series of “Reading is Fundamental.” 

The Zeta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has been begun their summer series of “Reading is Fundamental.” 

The group met at the Edmundites Mission on Monday and the Selma-Dallas Public Library on Tuesday and will be at the Walker-Johnson YMCA from 12:30 to 2 p.m., and Thursday, then Southside Primary and Potters place from 9 to 11 a.m.

RIF, as it is known as, is an event that provides educational resources to children in the Selma-Dallas County community. The sorority met Tuesday at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library and passed out books to over three busloads of children. Read selmasun.com for more information. 

“R.I.F. has been around for as long as I've been alive, and R.I.F. has been around for many years. It's one of our staple programs here in the Zeta Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority incorporated,” said Amber Milton, event coordinator and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. “This was started by the late Mrs. Nancy G. Sewell, and it's important for us to continue that legacy that she started."

“In the summertime, it's OK to relax, but we really want the kids to keep a good book in their hand,” Milton continued, “Growing up, it was always so easy to get lost in a good book and all the places it will take you with your imagination, so that's important for kids to continue to do that.”
