Alabama attorney and politician Cynthia Almond, who supported the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences (ASHS) in the legislature, has been appointed president of the Public Service Commission.
“I am honored to have been asked by Governor [Kay] Ivey to fill this important position. It is one I accept with great enthusiasm,” said Almond. “I know how important this commission is to the people of Alabama and to the industry sectors it regulates."
"I believe my training as an attorney and legislator will prove to be helpful in performing this role. I appreciate greatly the confidence shown in me by Governor Ivey, and I will work hard for her and for this great state of Alabama.”
Almond fills in for Twinkle Cavanaugh, who left in May for a position in the administration of President Donald Trump. In addition to the ASHS Almond has also reportedly partnered for the Safe Alabama public safety package and the Game Plan economic development legislation, among others.
"We owe this exemplary public servant a tremendous debt of gratitude for believing in ASHS and, through her legislative sponsorship, securing the necessary support to make the dream of a rural healthcare high school become a reality," said ASHS on social media.
