Crews from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) contractor DRC Emergency Services LLC will begin their final pickup of debris from Hurricane Isaias in Monroe and Wilcox counties on Nov. 16.Â
Residents are asked to place eligible debris on a public right-of-way by Nov. 15.Â
"The public right-of-way is the area between the roadway and the property, typically extending to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole or easement," said a statement from ALDOT.Â
Residents are advised to prepare debris with the following guidelines:Â
- Vegetative debris: Trees, tree stumps, branches, trunks and other yard debris.
- Construction and demolition debris: Damaged building materials, including lumber, drywall, glass, metal, roofing, tile and damaged furnishings.
- In the event white goods such as freezers, ovens or refrigerators were damaged as a result of Hurricane Isaias, those items should be placed curbside in seperate piles as well.
Important reminders:
- Collection crews will pick up loose debris only. Do not place bagged debris at the roadside.
- Keep debris away from fire hydrants, water meter vaults and other above-ground utilities.
