Applications are open for the Preserving Black Churches grant program by the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund at the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The initiative will grant a total $60 million to historic black churches that are 50 years old or older. Exceptions will be made for churches that are 35 years or older if they have "exceptional significance".

Historically black churches that have been repurposed for arts and cultural programs are also eligible. Grants will range from $50,000 to $500,000.

The program was established in 2023 and has granted $19.5 million to 108 historic black churches.

A webinar will be held on Aug. 14 to present an overview of the program. Click here to register.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 12. Applications can be made here.
