Perry County Commission Chairman Albert Turner has announced that a deal to sell Arrowhead Landfill to Waste Connection has been finalized.
Chairman Turner said the Perry County Commission can expect to receive a seven-figure annual payout from the landfill, the announcement said. "The 1,345-acre landfill just received its renewal permit which allows 15,000 tons daily from 33 states of solid waste to be safely disposed of household and construction waste."
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed but purchasing company Waste Connection said in a report that it would bring in $100 million in annual revenue for the firm.
The company first announced the acquisition during its Q2 earnings call on Thursday. CEO Ron Mittelstaedt called Arrowhead “one of our most strategic assets” saying it has an ideal location to railways. "Arrowhead Landfill has one of the largest rail infrastructures in the United States for a waste company. Over 95% of the landfill’s waste arrives on the rail. The renewal was the last obstacle to the sale."
In his announcement online, Turner said that more "opportunities" from other industries may follow after the sale was made and that the county will benefit significantly in terms of revenue.
"The impact on Perry County will be huge," he said. "The increase in revenue to its general fund is just one positive factor of the acquisition. It is estimated that an additional 50-60 new jobs will be added to the current workforce at Arrowhead."
"The county will see all economic indicators rising from the bottom while strengthening the county's position to attract other industries to the area."
