The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences (ASHS) Foundation will break ground on the upcoming $100 million campus in Demopolis on Oct. 14.

An announcement from ASHS Foundation CEO and President J. Scott Huffman stated that the first class will graduate in 2030 and that the school will send 100 "superbly trained young workers and leaders" into the healthcare field per year.

Huffman announced that the foundation received a $26.4 million investment that Bloomberg Philanthropies made in January 2024 along with $20 million from the state and elsewhere but stressed a continued need for financial support as the foundation will own and maintain the building.

"The return will be worth every penny in the impact on lives of young people and on elevating Alabama’s health care to transform the quality of life, particularly in rural Alabama and the Black Belt region," he said.

The groundbreaking will be attended by the ASHE's board, school trustees, stakeholders and Gov. Kay Ivey.

ASHS maintains a website with announcements at ashsfoundation.org.
