An attorney representing White Hall Entertainment in Lowndes County claims that the casino was the subject of racism after a raid in November forced it to close down.Â
According to 1819 News, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall obtained a temporary restraining order or TRO against White Hall during an investigation in which more than 600 allegedly illegal slot machines were found.Â
Representing White Hall is Faya Rose Toure, an attorney who recently stated that the state "intentionally misinterpreted and applied the public nuisance law," allegedly "depriving" black citizens in Lowndes County due process.Â
In a filing, Toure mentions the history of racism in Lowndes County going back to the 1930s and 1960s and compared past systemic racism to the modern day. Toure claimes that the action by the state is an example of its continuance to Lowndes County residents today.Â
She said that White Hall Entertainment provides "much-needed services and benefits" through charitable contributions. She also drew comparisons to the treatment of Native Americans in history.Â
Toure claims that the state is forbidding visitors to the casino, despite the action being allegedly unconstitutional.Â
