Baptist Medical Center South (BMCS) in Montgomery has been verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center, becoming one of few others in Alabama to do so.Â
According to WSFA, the designation was granted by the Alabama Department of Public Health. BMCS is now one of four in the state with the designation and the first in Central Alabama.Â
Level 1 Trauma Centers are able to treat a variety of serious injuries, including crashes, gunshot wounds and burns among others. The hospital is able to have surgeons and others trained in treating serious injuries on hand 24/7.Â
A public awareness campaign will be kicked off to educated residents about what the designation means.Â
