The two Selma men who died of gunshots wounds at the Chanticleer Apartments Saturday morning shot each other, according to Selma Police Chief Ettice Brickus.

In a Wednesday news conference, Brickus identified the victims as Jammie Hale, 30, and Anthony Thomas Jr., 29.

Brickus said police arrived at the apartments on the 1200 block of Woodrow Avenue at around 8 a.m. Oct. 31 to find one gunshot victim in a car. That person was transported by ambulance to Vaughan Regional Medical Center, where he died. The other victim was taken to Vaughan by private vehicle, where he also died, according to Brickus.

Surveillance video and witness testimony indicated that the men shot each other in what Brickus described as “an altercation.” While police are no longer looking for suspects in the shooting, Brickus said officers believe someone at the scene may have tampered with evidence.

Selma Mayor Johnny Moss III said noted that gun violence has begun to manifest in older males.

“The fact that we’re now dealing with adult males perpetrating this violence is very concerning,” Moss said. “We need to do a better job as adults working out issues of conflict.”

Brickus agreed.

“If you’re in a circle and those persons in your circle are encouraging you to not to make the right decision, you should probably rethink your circle,” she said.

You can see video of the news conference at the WSFA website.
