The Ben Moore Hotel in Montgomery has been selected by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of 11 Most Endangered Historic Places in America and will receive a $25,000 grant.

An announcement from the City of Montgomery said that the building was once the home of Malden Brothers Barber Shop where Martin Luther King Jr. was a patron.

It is located near the Dr. Richard Harris house that provided space for the Freedom Riders.

"Preserving landmarks like these ensures that the narratives of resilience, courage, and community woven into Montgomery’s history never fade," said the announcement.

Last year the hotel came under the protection of the Conservation Fund.
