Beyond the Bridge Freedom Fest will take place on Saturday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. after the previous event - then called Junteenth Freedom Fest - was postponed due to weather.
Beyond the Bridge will be themed around voting rights and seeks to educate about the history of the subject as well as feature speakers, music, food and other activities.
Speakers will be stage host Collins Pettaway, III, stage co-host Lydia Chatmon, co-executive director of The Flourish, Inc. Eric Marable, Jr., and co-executive director of The Flourish, Inc. Jahman Ariel Hill.
A health village will be part of the festival, with free health screenings, healthy snacks, preventive care resources and COVID vaccines. These will be provided for free.
The event is free and open to the public. It will take place Washington Street from Water Avenue to Selma Avenue and Alabama Avenue from Washington Street to Franklin Street.
Beyond the Bridge Freedom Fest is hosted by TRHT Selma in partnership with the Selma Center for Nonviolence and Black Belt Community Foundation.
