Counties in the Black Belt are among 30 to be designated natural disaster areas due to ongoing drought conditions, said an announcement from Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate.

These counties are:

Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Clarke, Crenshaw, Greene, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Pike, Russell, Sumter, and Wilcox.

Dallas, Perry, and Pickens are contiguous counties.

Those affected may visit www.fsa.usda.gov/programs-and.../farm-loan-programs for more information or find their local USDA Service Center at www.farmers.gov/working.../service-center-locator.

“These drought conditions are placing significant stress on Alabama farmers and ranchers, impacting crops, pastures and livestock across much of our state," said Pate. "We strongly encourage producers to contact their local USDA office to learn more about available assistance, resources and support programs. We appreciate USDA recognizing the severity of these conditions and providing this disaster designation, so producers have access to emergency assistance.”
