Several law enforcement agencies in the Black Belt were among others statewide to receive funding for new equipment, said a statement from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
“Many smaller police and sheriffs’ departments perform their sworn duties to protect and serve while dealing with tight budgets and aging equipment,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “I am proud of the work that our men and women in law enforcement do each day, and I am pleased that these grants will help many local law enforcement agencies address critical needs, increasing public safety and the safety of the officers.”
The following benefitted from funding:
Perry County Commission – $44,170 to buy a new law enforcement vehicle for the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.
Barbour County Commission – $50,000 for new computers and printers for patrol vehicles and office personnel.
Eufaula – $47,334 for new Tasers.
Pike County Commission – $48,252 for 20 body armor vests and specialized forced entry tools for the Pike County Special Response Team.
“ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in support of our state’s law enforcement with these grants that help ensure public safety officers are well-equipped,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
