Hayneville will be the last stop for the "Sick & Tired" bus tour by Black Voters Matter (BVM) on Sunday, Sept. 28.Â
The tour, being held in partnership with the American Cancer Society: Cancer Action Network and Community Change, seeks to promote Medicaid expansion in rural and Black communities, said a press release from BVM.Â
The tour is critical of what was described as cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits by the administration of President Donald Trump.Â
"This tour is a direct response to the ongoing healthcare crisis disproportionately impacting Black, rural, and marginalized communities across the state," said the press release. "Alabama’s refusal to fully expand Medicaid has left hundreds of thousands in a coverage gap, unable to afford health insurance yet ineligible for assistance, leading to devastating health outcomes."Â
"Through this tour, BVM aims to mobilize impacted communities, transforming frustration into political power to advocate for the healthy, fulfilling, and joyous lives they deserve."Â
On Sunday there will be a resource fair and mobile health unit in Hayneville in partnership with Helenor Bell-Lowndes County SRBWI (Southern Rural Black Women's Initiative).Â
Local navigators and certified application counselors will be on-site to offer help to residents.Â
The event will be held at the Southview Worship Center at 235 SR-21 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Â
