Crews from Black Warrior Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) are still working to restore power to service areas after the weekend following the severe storms that hit Alabama recently.
According to a press release from EMC, crews from as far as Arkansas and Georgia were requested to help in south Tuscaloosa. But a storm on early Sunday morning caused EMC to send crews to Marengo and Choctaw where 1,500 were without power.
“Since Wednesday of last week, our crews have been working 16-plus hours a day, even in the rain, restoring power in many in the 12 counties we provide service,” said EMC Manager Daryl Jones. “In the Ralph and Fosters areas, many poles have been replaced on the main feeder lines, yet there are many more to go.”
Last week storms caused power outages to almost 15,000 households and businesses. Most of them have had their power restored during the weekend.
“Our sister cooperatives in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi were unable to provide their usual assistance as they were and still are fighting the same issues with these daily storms that bring unprecedented wind speeds of 60-80 mph,” Jones said. “It’s like small hurricanes that you can’t predict where they will hit next.”
