City, county partner to bring youth baseball back this summer

Dallas County and Valley Grande hosted baseball teams last year, with the 11- and 12-year-old Dallas County All Star baseball team winning the state Dixie Youth championship and third place in the World Series in Laurel, Miss. The county and city teams will be combined for the 2022 season.

The city of Selma and Dallas County are merging their youth baseball and softball programs to better serve the youth that want to play.

“Baseball has been a keystone in our community for years,” Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. said. “I know our kids are eager to get back on the field and play America’s game.”

Perkins said Selma Park and Recreation Director Dr. Denisha Hendricks is heading up Selma’s effort, and like the sport itself, “it is a true team effort.”
