The Clarke County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of fraudulent arrest warrants demanding money that is being sent through the mail or by phone call.Â
The warrant demands a court surcharge fee, with one sample on the department's social media listing $225.Â
"We have been made aware of this, and we are investigating the matter," said a post on social media.Â
Citizens who receive such a letter or a similar phone call are advised to contact the Clarke County Sheriff's Office at 251-275-4254.Â

* WHAT...Very cold temperatures as low as 8 above expected.
* WHERE...All of central Alabama.
* WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 9 AM CST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of
subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
