Selma City Councilwoman Jannie Thomas is hosting a Ward 7 meeting to talk about projects underway in the area on April 18.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, which is also known as the Walton Theater. Thomas said there will be updates on work being done in Ward 7 and updates on other projects underway. She also said there will be time for input from the citizens that live in Ward 7.

“We want a safe neighborhood. That’s why we keep doing this.”

Thomas is hosting her annual Stop the Violence Rally on April 29, which is held to fight against and bring attention to the senselessness of gun violence and to promote healing.

The annual scholarship in honor of Alexis Hunter, who was the victim of gun violence in 2013, will be given away during the rally. This year it will be in a new location. She said the rally will be in the lot at the corner of L.L. Anderson Avenue and Church Street. She said this lot is soon to be made into a park in honor of Rosjah J. Butler, a young boy who lost his life to gun violence April 27, 2010.

“It’s taking a lot of leg work, but I want to make a little green park with benches in his memory,” Thomas said.
