The Dallas County Commission was granted $12,686 to pay overtime for officers currently serving in the 4th Judicial Court's Gang Task Force in an effort to reduce crime.
The task force serves Bibb, Hale, Perry and Wilcox in addition to Dallas County.
The money was granted from Gov. Kay Ivey's Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). The funds were allocated from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program.
Funds were also allocated from the the department for several agencies in Montgomery. The Montgomery County Commission was given $32,155 to update the vehicles of law enforcement officers with "in-car modern technology".
The city of Montgomery received $30,446 for forensic software and the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles received $30,000 to develop a strategy program to address offender re-entry issues.
“All Alabamians deserve to live and work in places that they feel safe,” Ivey said. “I commend our police officers and sheriffs ‘deputies who work every day to keep us all safe, and I hope that these funds will enable additional measures to be taken that lead to increased safety in our communities.”
