The Keith High School Bears hosted the R.C. Hatch Bobcats on Friday night in Orrville for a much-anticipated area matchup.Â
Â
Both the Lady Bears and the Lady Bobcats are ranked in the ASWA girls Class 1A basketball polls. The Bears and the Bobcats battled the entire night, but the Lady Bears came out with the 46-39 win over the Lady Bobcats. S. Moore led the Lady Bears in scoring with 12 points. A. Atkins finished with 11 points and J. King added 10 points.Â
Â
The Lady Bears head coach Cecil Williams stated, "First off, Hatch is a tough team and played hard the entire game, but my girls stayed focused and did the best they could being that we had back-to-back area games with two of the toughest teams in the area. Conditioning played a big part last night. We had just a little more gas and free throws than the other team. Senior Shania Moore shot the ball well and the team as a whole played defense well. We missed a lot of opportunities on the inside that we need to improve on, but hopefully when we play them next Friday, we will do a better job."
Â
The varsity boys came out full of energy and intensity. With the return of senior Miles Hannah, the Bears cruised past the Bobcats and secured a 74-42 area win. M. Hannah led the Bears in scoring with 18 points. T. Lanier finished with 13 points. E. Hall added 12 points and J. Sanders finished with 10 points. F. Wilson led the Bobcats in scoring with 14 points. T. Dudley finished with 11 points.Â
Â
The Bears head coach Marcus Turner stated, "I'm very proud of my guys and the way they prepared for this game all week. We took care of home court in the area, now we have to go get one at their house next week."
