The 2024 baseball season ended for the Morgan Academy Senators varsity at the hands of the Glenwood School Gators in the first round of the AISA State Baseball Playoffs in Phenix City on Thursday, Aug. 25.

As Morgan Academy Head Baseball Coach Paul Thomas said, “The round of the playoffs didn’t go very well for us” as his Senators lost the first two games of the three-game series to Glenwood 9-0 and 12-3.

Thomas said, “The season didn't end the way we wanted it to but all in all we had a pretty solid season, and we got ourselves back into postseason play, which was a goal of ours this year.”

He said his lone senior, Milton Hand, will be missed and wished him all the best as he continues in his education.

Thomas said of the future, “I have a good nucleus of guys returning. So, I'm very optimistic as to what next season might bring.”

The Morgan Academy varsity ended the regular season on Tuesday, April 16 against Patrician Academy, losing 6-1.

In its last regular season game, Patrician jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning, but Caden Tellier hit a solo homerun in the second inning to tie game. However, Thomas said, “Out bats just couldn’t do enough in the late innings, and Patrician was able to put a few more runs on the board late to preserve the win.”

The Senators entered the playoffs with a 15-10 record and a fourth-place finish in the region.

The junior varsity Senators did not make the state tournament and finished the season with a 1-13 record.
