The lights were bright, the stakes were high and everything was on the line as the Selma High School Saints faced off against Northside High School in a regional championship showdown on Friday.
From the opening kickoff, both teams came ready to battle. The game was intense, physical and full of excitement, with neither team willing to back down. Every possession mattered, every yard was hard-earned, and the energy continued to build as the two teams fought for the regional crown.
At halftime, Northside held a slim 21-18 lead over the Saints. With only three points separating the teams, the second half promised even more drama, and Selma was determined to fight its way back.
But as the pressure mounted, controversy entered the picture. The Saints appeared to find the end zone with a touchdown that could have changed the momentum of the game, only for the officials to call it back. The decision sparked frustration on the Selma sideline, adding even more tension to an already heated championship battle. Disagreements over officiating continued throughout the contest, but the Saints kept pushing forward, refusing to let adversity break their spirit.
Despite the controversial moments and the pressure of the championship stage, Selma continued to fight until the final whistle. The Saints gave it everything they had, but Northside managed to hold on and protect its lead.
When the clock finally hit zero, Northside walked away with a hard-fought 31-24 victory, officially being crowned the regional champions.
The loss ended Selma High’s winning streak. Their record is now 8-1.
