Cedrick Simmons, a Selma football standout, has committed to play for Auburn University.

The wide receiver who switched from Southside High to Selma High when his coach Charles Moody moved to the Saints in the spring, announced on Tuesday he will play for Auburn after graduating next spring.

Simmons had 14 colleges recruiting him, including the University of Alabama and Purdue, according to 24/7 Sports.

The online sports channel says Simmons was a Bama fan before making the Auburn commitment, which was sealed by his last visit to the Tigers. Wide receivers coach Kodi Burns led the recruitment.

Simmons had a strong junior season with 106 receptions for 2,192 yards and 20 touchdowns. Simmons also totaled 34 tackles and seven interceptions on defense.

Simmons would have joined fellow Selma players Derrick and Erick Smith. However, news spread on Wednesday that Derrick is no longer on the Auburn team. 24/7 Sports reports Smith was removed from the Tigers roster for violating team rules.

24/7 Sports says Auburn is now at 24 commitments in its 2027 class with the addition of Simmons.
