The Demopolis City Council approved a change of plans to a new development on Maria Avenue at their July 16 meeting.
The developer of a project on the site of the former Mauvilla Trailer Park asked the council to approve a change in the Planned Unit Development. This will be Demopolis’ first Planned Unit Development, a type of mixed-use project that gives developers more flexibility.
The original plan called for two sizes of single-family homes and duplexes on two horseshoe-shaped roads side by side on Maria Avenue.
The new plan calls for several structures on one arched street with two entrances onto Maria. Each structure will hold up to four townhouses. The townhouses will be rental units, as were the homes in the original plan, according to Demopolis Mayor Woody Collins.
Collins said the developer told city officials he felt the new design will give him a better return on his investment.
This is the third plan for development on that site. A previous developer had planned to place tiny homes on the site, but those plans did not materialize.
In other business, the city council presented a proclamation to the Demopolis 10U All Stars for being state champions and for making it to the world series.
