Demopolis Municipal Airport is building a new terminal as part of a nearly $5 million renovation project.

Demopolis City Council on Thursday approved Demopolis Municipal Airport plans that include a new terminal and taxiway.

The project is now underway.

“I will absolutely give them a pat on the back,” Mayor Woody Collins said.

He applauded airport director Jason Pendergrass for “securing grants, saving the city money and also doing a good job of managing the work going on out there.” He added the airport “is becoming something we can be proud of.”

In other action the Council updated the Burn Permit Ordinance originally passed in 2015, as requested by the Demopolis Fire and Rescue Department. Also approved were the Demopolis High School Homecoming Parade for Thursday, Sept. 28, and the Eastern Hills Residents- Past/Present Neighborhood Unity Party for Saturday, July 6, 2024.

In his comments, Mayor Collins said the recent practice of putting up signs on neglected property has been getting results. Property owners are cleaning up their land, and the mayor said he has been getting many thank-you calls from city residents.
