Demopolis City Schools moved forward on replacing the lights at the athletic fields.

The school board on Monday approved $413,600 for the labor to install new LED lights at the football, baseball, track and softball fields. Superintendent Adam Pugh said the bid came in lower than the expected cost of $600,000, making the total of the project $1.4 million instead of $1.6 million.

The school district bought the lights through a cooperative purchase agreement with Sourcewell and hired a firm to conduct the installation.

The district says the new lights will be installed in time for spring sports to use, while football will play with current lights this season and get the new LEDs for next fall.

The next school board meeting is Nov. 16 at 5:15 p.m.
