Versa Mae Simmons has been charged and arrested and has not been found guilty at this time.

A Demopolis day care worker has been arrested for murder in the death of an infant on Monday.

Versa Mae Simmons, 68, an employee at Tender Years on Maria Avenue, was arrested by Demopolis Police on a murder warrant for the death of a baby that could not be revived by first responders on Monday, according to WAKA.

The warrant was obtained after watching video footage from the day care and conducting personnel interviews.

Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers told WAKA the first responders tried CPR on the infant unsuccessfully and then rushed the baby to Whitfield Memorial Hospital where the infant was pronounced dead. The child’s body was sent for an autopsy.
