A Selma man and his sister were convicted of crimes related to drug trafficking, gun crimes and witness tampering, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney of the Southern District of Alabama.
Darick “Booman” Dillard was convicted of two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and witness tampering.
Lametrius Dillard was convicted of witness tampering.
According to the press release, Darick Dillard had possessed an "AK-47 style firearm" and a semi-automatic pistol, despite being convicted of prior felonies.
The court documents of his case showed that Dillard was recorded selling firearms before being served a federal indictment in March. When he was served the indictment, he was found to be possession of narcotics, including cocaine, and a stolen pistol.
During that time he contacted Lametrius Dillard, who was directed by him to try and intimidate a witness that was providing evidence during the trial.
Both will be sentenced on Jan. 14 in 2022.
“Violent felons in our community have no business possessing or selling firearms," U. S. Attorney Sean P. Costello said. "In partnership with our federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, we will continue to hold criminals accountable for their actions."
"The jury’s verdict reinforces the message that threatening and intimidating witnesses is as utterly unacceptable as gun and drug crime.”
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
