First Baptist Church Selma has received a $40,000 grant from the state General Fund Budget, said an announcement from Sen. Robert Stewart.Â
The funds will be used for preservation efforts of the historical building, which served a prominent role during the Civil Rights Movement.Â
"First Baptist holds a sacred place in the history of the Civil Rights Movement, serving as a gathering place for mass meetings and organizing during the fight for voting rights," said Stewart's announcement.Â
"That legacy of service continues today through tornado relief, warrant clinics, maternal health mobile clinics, civic commemorations, and other community initiatives."
