Old Glory is flying above the Selma Area Food Bank thanks to WoodmenLife, a nonprofit insurance company that has been donating and dedicating flags and flagpoles across the country since 1947.

Food Bank Director Jeff Harrison said, “We love this country, and we wanted to show our patriotism. WoodmenLife has been a big supporter of ours for a long time, and thanks to their donation of the flag and the flagpole, we can show our love and support of this great country.”

WoodmenLife Community Outreach adviser Ashley Kitzinger performed the ceremony with a prayer and by reading the poem “I Am Your Flag” by an unknown author.

The flags and flagpoles are donated and dedicated to all military personnel, police, fire and rescue and any other first responders for all they do on a daily basis. The dedication ceremony pays tribute to these heroes. A plaque at the base of the pole reminds people of this daily.

According to a press release, more than 5,000 flagpoles have been dedicated in special ceremonies held by WoodmenLife chapters and hundreds more will be dedicated this year.
