A curfew has been issued by the Town of Fort Deposit for minors after disturbances were reported by residents and for what Police Chief Terry Steiner said was for their safety.

According to the Lowndes Signal, Steiner said that residents complained about teenagers using all terrain vehicles or ATVs late at night but also pointed out incidents outside of the town such as the rape of a girl in Montgomery.

Minors of ages 17 and under are to be indoors Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Any minor caught outside during these times will be brought home and advised about the policy. If caught again there may be penalties brought on with charges against the parents. Courts and the Department of Human Resources may also be involved.

Exceptions can be made for minors who are accompanied by parents or guardians from nightly activities such as sporting events or from night shifts at work.
