A man from Georgia has been convicted of possession of an unregistered destructive device following his arrested for a domestic disturbance in Hope Hull in March.Â
An announcement from U.S. Attorney Kevin P. Davidson said that police were called to a residence in Hope Hull on March 20 on a call of a domestic disturbance.
Responding officers met Waylon Blake Gilreath, Sr. of Williamson, GA on the front porch. They learned that he had a protection from abuse order and was not supposed to be on the property.Â
Officers arrested him before searching his vehicle and found nine firearms that included handguns and AR-style firearms, as well as rounds of ammunition, several ammunition magazines, and two sets of body armor.
Some of the magazines were high-capacity drum style magazines, the announcement said.Â
"In addition, deputies located four prescription medication bottles that contained what appeared to be an explosive mixture of some type. Lab analysis later confirmed that the bottles contained two common substances used in exploding targets," said Davidson. "Three of the devices were also found to contain shrapnel, which would enhance the destructive power of the devices."
Gilreath faces a sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison with no parole.
