GetFit Selma! HealthFest will feature a 5K run and a 1K community fun run and walk. The event will be Saturday Oct. 4 at 8 a.m. at McRae Learning Center on Woodrow Avenue.Â
Organizers of the 12th Annual Get Fit Selma! HealthFest and Selma Street Olympics are looking for participants and volunteers for the Oct. 4 event.
Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday Oct. 4 at McRae Learning Center on Woodrow Avenue with the Defeat Diabetes 5K run and walk. The event will include the Kidz Color Run. The top male and female runners will win $100, and the fastest runner over 40 will receive $50.
A 1K community fun run and walk will begin at 8:20 a.m.
Street Olympics, inflatables, basketball, track and field events, and double Dutch demonstrations will take place throughout the event, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Â
Health screening, consultations and health education will be provided from 9 a.m. to noon. The screenings will be provided by the Selma Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Rho Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority; Rural Health Medical Program; UAB Selma Family Medicine; the Alabama Lions Sight Conservation Association; Vaughan Regional Medical Center; Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs Mobile Unit; Cassandra Ford, PhD, MSN, MBA, RN; and Janice Lanier Parker, DNP, MS, CRNP, FNP-BC.
