The Hale County Commission was one of two other governments to receive a grant from the state to help citizens lower the costs of energy use.
“Grants from the State Energy Program have over the years helped multiple Alabama cities and counties, utilities, nonprofit organizations and others save money through the installation of energy-efficient systems,” said Gov. Kay Ivey in an announcement. “I commend these latest grant recipients for their focus on energy conservation.”
The commission received $123,992 from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) LED lighting at the Hale County Jail.
Citing the U.S. Department of Energy the announcement stated that LED lighting requires 75 to 90 % less energy than normal lighting and has a longer life.
Daphne and Sylacauga also benefitted from the round of grants, totaling more than $273,000.
“These local governments are to be commended for their wise decision to invest in upgrades that will save taxpayers money in their districts,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
