A hard freeze warning will be in effect from late Friday night to Saturday morning for Dallas, Lowndes, Marengo, Montgomery and Macon counties.

Weather forecasts project bitterly cold temperatures in the teens overnight and Saturday morning. The conditions can kill crops and other vegetation sensitive to the cold and may affect unprotected plumbing.

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly," advises the Dallas County Emergency Management's Facebook page. "Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing."
