A bill has been passed by the House in an attempt to alleviate the nationwide shortage of baby formula.Â
The bill will go to the Senate after being approved in a 414-9 vote, according to media reports. This bill would allow the purchase of formula from federal programs aimed at assisting those with low income.Â
Additionally, a related bill was approved in a 231-192 vote to send $28 million to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to increase formula supply and production.Â
Selma native and representative Terri Sewell pledged her support in a message on her Facebook page, saying that she has heard from Alabama families that have reportedly driven out of state for formulas.Â
President Joe Biden recently invoked the Defense Production Act in an attempt to boost formula production and transfer products where they are needed.Â
