The Humminbird plant in Eufaula has announced that it launched a renewable energy project as part of an effort to reduce carbon emission in the next 20 years.
Humminbird produces marine electronics products that includes fish finders, multifunction displays, autopilots, ice flashers, and cartography products. According to the Alabama Department of Commerce, it was founded in 1971.
The recently implemented energy project is part of an expansion at the plant in which a 17,000-square foot addition was completed in 2021 to increase capacity by 40%.
Last year the plant installed a solar array to power a portion of the plant’s electricity load to begin generating its own solar power.
“Leaving the world a better place is one of the core values of the company, and that includes continuing to explore using renewable energy to power a portion of our operations,” said General Manager Craig Packard.
“With our new solar array, Humminbird generated about 200,000 kwh of electricity last year, which is the equivalent of the amount of electricity used in 16 homes in one year."
