Selma Mayor Darrio Melton reported on Friday a list of infrastructure projects going on in Selma.
In his weekly address on Facebook, Melton said $180,000 has become available from ALDOT for several projects, including resurfacing Old Marion Junction Road from Cahaba Road to Drayton Drive. The project will start in the next few weeks, he said.
More than $1.2 million from FEMA is being given to the city to fill sink holes on Arsenal Place, LL Anderson, Marie Foster and Highland Avenue. The city also has the funds to repave and resurface West Haven, he said.
The Army Corps of Engineers is providing $1.2 million to repair riverfront erosion, specifically behind the amphitheater located off Water Avenue. Melton said the city finance department still needs to send matching funds of $61,000 to the corps as part of a match for the funds for the project to begin.
The agreement is a 65-35 percent match, but the Corps of Engineers is only asking for $61,000 for now to get the project moving, he said.
“If something isn’t done in a hurry, the amphitheater will end up falling into the river,” he said.
