Juneteenth celebrations planned this week

With Juneteenth two days away there are several upcoming events planned to celebrate the holiday. 

Juneteenth is a commemoration of the end of slavery when the final order of the Emancipation Proclamation was enforced on June 19, 1865. 

Here are some events planned in honor of the occasion: 

In Dallas County, Foot Soldiers Park in Selma will hold its 3rd Annual Still We Rise Juneteenth Celebration on June 19. 

Wilcox County hosts a free Juneteenth celebration from 1-5 p.m. 115 Broad St in the old Ratcliffe's building. Includes a parade, food and art competition. Call 334-682-9878 for more information.

On June 21, For the Culture Juneteenth Weekend will be held at the B.B. Kings Blues Club in Montgomery. It will be hosted by Rodney Wilkerson and DJ Freaknasty, featuring a performance by  DJ Wright and Yoshihanaa. 

The Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery will provide complimentary access to its Legacy Sites on June 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Juneteenth Sip-n-Cycle Pedal Cruise will take participants on a trip across the Alabama River in Montgomery. More details here. 

The Camden Shoe Shop and Quilt Museum will host Wilcox County Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 featuring a parade, food and beverages, an art competition with prizes, music and educational skits. 

Men of Valor will host a Juneteenth event in Greensboro on June 19 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Davis Community Park.
