Kamala Harris at Jubilee 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris told the thousands gathered for the 59th annual Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee on Sunday that the US should push for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and to provide more help to the embattled people there.

In a five-minute discussion at the start of her major speech at the Jubilee festival, Harris called the Israeli-Gaza conflict a “humanitarian crisis” and demanded an end to fighting for six weeks to allow crews to provide aid.

Israeli forces invaded Gaza in October after Hamas terrorists attacked Israel, killing more than a thousand and capturing more than 100 hostages.

While calling Hamas “a brutal terrorist organization with no regard for innocent life,” Harris said “our common humanity compels us to act” to help the citizens of Gaza.

“As President Joe Biden said Friday, the U.S. is committed to getting more life-saving help to Gaza,” Harris said. The Department of Defense made its first airdrop of supplies into the stricken region on Friday, and they are seeking more sea-based routes for aid.

“The Israeli government needs to do more to increase aid – no excuses,” Harris said.
