Sen. Katie Britt highlighted the continuing tornado relief efforts in Selma among others during a U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations hearing that involved the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

According to alpoliticalreporter.com, Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell were questioned by Britt as the committee addressed a request from President Joe Biden's administration for disaster relief supplemental funding.

Britt reportedly brought up legislation to allocate $10 million to mitigate the impact of the 2023 tornado that caused significant damage in Selma and elsewhere in the Black Belt.

She said that she wanted to "make sure" that the funding goes directly to those communities, especially given Selma's historical importance. She also addressed family farmers and pointed out a loss in funding to them, urging more financial support.
