A Keith High School senior is being held without bond and charged with murder and attempted murder for shooting two men at a baby shower in Marion Junction Sunday night.
Cedric Long, 18, was arrested Monday night after being on the run for a day and is suspected of killing Charles Prewitt, 32, and injuring another at 8564 County Road 189 around 5 p.m.
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said the injured victim whose name has not been released is in stable condition at UAB.
Granthum said witnesses reported that after a baby shower, “the men were outside talking under a tree” when Long walked up and shot two of the men.
“We recovered a 9mm pistol at the scene,” Granthum said. Long was on the run after the incident, but was captured Monday night.
As for a motive, Granthum said they don’t know yet.
“There was no argument or anything. He just walked up to them and shot both of them,” Granthum said. He also said Long lived in this house with this family. “He has grown up with this family. They call him brother,” he said.
Granthum said Long is a senior at Keith High School and was set to graduate this year.
