The Lady Saints were on cruise control in the first round of the area finals.
Sipsey Valley was no match for the scrappy defense of the Lady Saints. By halftime, the Lady Saints were up by 19 points, thanks to an air-tight, full-court press. After halftime, the Lady Saints continued to dominate until the last second. Selma High would finish with 47 points and Sipsey Valley would end with 12.
Alexias Walker led the way with 19 points and several steals. Jamiriaa Jackson scored 8 points. Saryah Pope chipped in with 6 points. Rod’Neisha Parker also contributed 5 points.
“I’m proud of my young ladies,” Selma High Lady Saints Head Coach Wil Morgan said. “They came out with a lot of Intensity and determination. We have been stressing to them to come out the gate playing with fire, and that’s what we did. I’m glad we were able to get the young girls some experience too. Tomorrow’s game will come down to execution and who wants it the most. Central Tuscaloosa is a very talented team, and we will have to do the small things to give us a chance to win.”
Central Tuscaloosa beat Demopolis in the first round with a score of 50-28. Central Tuscaloosa will advance to the area championship game versus Selma High School.
The Class 5A Area 7 Girls Championship will be played on Feb. 7, at Selma High School. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
