UAB brought together partners that helped make renovation of the East Selma Community Pond a reality for a drizzly ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday.

Under a white tent, residents of Selma’s Ward 8 joined leaders of UAB’s Live HealthSmart Alabama that got the funding and brought together dozens of companies and organizations to redo the dilapidated pond in East Selma with reinforcements to the pond’s walls, new walkways, bathroom, and more.

The ceremony featured UAB President Dr. Ray Watts, CEO of Live HealthSmart Mona Fouad, Mayor James Perkins Jr., Rep. Terri Sewell and Ward 8 Councilman Michael Johnson, who gave plaques of thanks to many who helped make it possible.

See Selma Sun’s print edition on Thursday for a full story on the ribbon cutting.
