Dallas County residents learned about farming at the Autumnal Equinox at Selma’s Local Farm Cooperative on Sept. 20.
Seth Scott, co-manager of the co-op, introduced visitors to the farm’s layout as they enjoyed light fruits and sandwiches.
After a story-telling session, participants helped plant some rainbow Swiss chard. Cabbage, collards, bok choy and curly kale were planted by the staff after the guests left.
The Local Farm Co-op has added a third plotting ground to their site. Scott said the first tilling plot would be harvested for the last time this season, as they ready the other two plots for winter vegetables and harvests.
Xaviera Craig provided the group with an irrigation tutorial, while Shardajai Harris explained that vegetables grown at the plot are distributed every Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon, sold via citizen’s pickup or wholesaled at different farmers markets around the city.
For information about what vegetables are available, contact the Local Farm Co-op here or call 334-526-0767 or email farm@thelocal.coop
