Students from Montgomery Public Schools, Selma City Schools and Autauga County Schools came together last week for the 5th Annual Hyundai Initiative for Robotics Excellence (HIRE) School Robotics Tournament at the HMMA Training Center.

The event showcases STEM skills in the VEX IQ Robotics competition, said an announcement from the Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“We Alabamians love our sports and competitions. Watching our students problem-solve using STEM is as exciting as the Iron Bowl,” said Scott Posey, HMMA PR Manager. “Preparing students for their future isn’t just on teachers—it’s all of us working together. We hope they’ll explore the many exciting opportunities HMMA offers.”

The two-day tournament had 350 students across 44 teams competing in skills challenges, engineering notebook judging, and championship matches. HMMA engineering teams served as judges.

HIRE has reportedly invested more than $500,000 in local robotics programs, the announcement stated.
