The Selma Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting death of youth mentor Mark Myles on Friday.

Allen McCampbell, 43, has been arrested and charged with murder with no bond, according to a news release from Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford.

The shooting that led to the death of Myles, 43, occurred at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of 9th Avenue in Selma. Police continue to investigate and no additional details will be released “in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” Fulford said.

“The Selma Police Department extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Mark Myles and remains committed to public safety and justice,” the statement said.

Selma friends and colleagues have flooded social media with messages of mourning Saturday over the loss of Myles, who is widely regarded as one of the city’s most dedicated mentors and peacemakers as a community outreach manager with the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth and Reconciliation. He has worked with the city, schools and local churches to intervene in conflicts, guide young people away from violence and support families in crisis.
