The AISA Class AAA Region 2 Lowndes Academy Rebels, under the direction of first year head football coach Speed Sampley, claimed their second win of the 2025 football season Friday night with a 41-14 home win over the Crenshaw Christian Cougars. But Sampley was not so impressed with his team’s play.

Sampley said following Friday’s game, “When you win 41-14 most people are happy.” But, he said, “The score is not how we judge our success. We didn't play to our potential, and that is concerning.”

Sampley said of the home win over the AISA Class AA Region 1 Cougars, “This bunch of kids can play much better, and that is what we have to work on starting Monday.”

Hard to find fault. The Rebels had 354 yards total offense to 144 for the Cougars. Lowndes Academy had 156 yards through the air and 198 yards rushing while Crenshaw had just 52 yards passing and 92 yards rushing.

Rebels’ quarterback Braydn Stokes completed 12 of 20 passes for 141 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. J. Hardy Jr. was the leading rusher for the Rebels with 10 carries for 131 yards and three touchdowns. And Huston Hampton was the leading receiver with four catches for 61 yards and one touchdown.

On the negative side, the Rebels lost one fumble and suffered one interception.

Last week, the Rebels defeated AISA Class AA Region 1 Edgewood Academy Wildcats at home 30-6.

The Rebels will host the 2-0 Fort Dale Academy Eagles in the first regional came of the season for both teams on Friday, Sept. 5.
