Luck of the Irish smiles on Burnsville despite F2 tornado on St. Patrick’s Day

It didn’t feel like luck of the Irish was smiling on Burnsville on St. Patrick’s Day last week when an F2 tornado ripped through the small east Dallas County community on Highway 14.

But a week later, they are considering themselves lucky after reporting only a few minor injuries, no fatalities and getting support from several local and national organizations to repair damage caused on March 17 by one of two tornadoes that spun through Dallas County in a string of severe storms that spurred at least 25 other tornadoes across Alabama.

On Monday, five days later, residents and helpers were still working to clear debris and fix homes left in rubble from the storm that packed at least 113 mph winds.
