The Main Street Marion program has been awarded a $148,000 grant to develop a comprehensive economic growth plan for both the city and Perry County.Â
The plan will focus on three areas, namely the Perry Lakes Park redevelopment, downtown Marion business revitalization, and an economic development assessment of Vaiden Field, said Main Street Marion President Donald J. Bennett Sr. in an announcement. Â
The plan for Perry Lakes Park will include the possibility of expanding recreational facilities, and assessing its event hosting capabilities, as well as tourism development to attract visitors.Â
For the downtown area the plan will look at creating a technology corridor involving the Harris Technology Hub.Â
"A key focus will be the development of e-commerce capabilities and digital business support services that can help local entrepreneurs and established businesses expand their market reach through online platforms," the announcement said.Â
Bennet hopes that the hub will serve as an "anchor" for the downtown revitalization efforts.Â
And lastly the plan will evaluate Vaiden Field located southwest of the central business district of Marion and examine recreation and business goals "while serving community needs," the announcement adds.Â
"This grant represents a pivotal opportunity to create a unified vision for Marion's economic future," Bennet said. "By taking a comprehensive approach that connects our natural resources, downtown core, and recreational facilities, we can maximize the impact of future development efforts and create sustainable economic growth for our community."
